Moving with Pets: Reducing Stress for Your Furry Friends

Moving is stressful for humans, but it's often worse for pets who don't understand why their world is being packed into boxes. Whether you're moving across Needham or into the city, preparation is key.

    Before the Move

Keep the Routine: Feed and walk them at the exact same times to maintain a sense of normalcy. Pheromones: Use calming sprays or diffusers in the old house and the new one. The 'Essential Bag'*: Pack their food, bowls, and favorite toys in a bag that stays with you, not on the moving truck.

    After the Move

Introduce them to the new house one room at a time. In towns like Newton, explore the local dog parks like the Cold Spring Park Off-Leash Area to help them get used to the new scents of the neighborhood.
